Executive Advisor

After a long and successful career with ExxonMobil, Bill Innes now serves as a My Next Season Executive Advisor. As someone who has advised CEOs and C-suite leaders of corporations in Europe, India, and North America, and who has successfully navigated his own transition from demanding corporate career to fulfilling next season, Bill brings valuable insight and wisdom to clients walking through career transitions. Together with My Next Season Co-Founder and Senior Partner Leslie Braksick, Bill co-authored Your Next Season: Advice for Executives on Transitioning from Intense Careers to Fulfilling Next Seasons.

Bill spent most of his career with ExxonMobil and its Canadian affiliate, leading the chemical and petroleum businesses in Canada, Exxon’s chemical business in Europe, and serving as CEO of Exxon in Japan. As President of ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, Bill had responsibility for corporate research and the research engineering capital project management supporting ExxonMobil’s 44 refining and marketing businesses worldwide. Bill developed ExxonMobil’s Operating Integrity Management System, which has become the industry benchmark for ensuring control of hazardous and environmentally sensitive operations.

Bill served as a director of Imperial Oil, Esso Sekiyu, Tonen Corporation, Interprovincial Pipelines, and The Continuous Learning Group. He has also served as President of the Canadian Petroleum Products Institute and as a Trustee of the Liberty Science Center. Bill earned an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and a Doctorate in Engineering from Birmingham University in the UK. Bill and Judy, his wife of 50 years, have journeyed together through 16 homes and 3 continents. They now live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, close to their son Rob and his family, where they enjoy boating in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
