With a passion for storytelling and building strong relationships, Valerie Johnson brings her experience in corporate banking, community development, and at-home parenting to the My Next SeasonExecutive Spouse Project. As Project Leader, Valerie interviewed the spouses of CEOs and compiled their wisdom, stories, and advice. Intimately familiar with the nuances of being a supportive spouse while juggling work, volunteer, and family roles, Valerie seeks to provide important relational tools and support to spouses of executives in career transition.
As the wife of Eric (Rick) Johnson, Chairman and CFO of the Hillman Company, Valerie spent fifteen years at home in Pittsburgh, devoted to supporting her husband’s career and raising their two sons, Kenny and Drew. Prior to her parenting role, she worked as a credit analyst and lender for PNC Bank in Pittsburgh and Chicago, and Wells Fargo Bank in Dallas.
Valerie is deeply committed to volunteer, church, and community activities. She served for 3 years as the Director of Kids’ Ministry for Orchard Hill Church, an interdenominational church with a 2,500-person congregation. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Laughlin Children’s Center, which provides educational support services, and the Duke University Divinity School’s Board of Visitors. In addition, Valerie mentors high school students as a part of Summerbridge Pittsburgh, where she helps underserved students plan for college.
